About the Event
The Melanated Community Book Drive is a community collaborative experience promoting literature written by people of the global majority, gifted to people of the global majority (replaces the term people of color) in underserved and represented areas in the City of Austin. We believe in providing culturally mindful books during the holiday season in an effort to provide communities with various forms of positive representation. Each year we collect and purchase various forms of literature to distribute to underserved communities of the global majority in Austin. We understand the importance of seeing examples of what you can become. Our book drive is our effort to provide communities systematically oppressed and ostracized that there is beauty, depth, and positivity that can be found in books. We believe the best narratives for people of the global majority, are by people of the global majority.
