About the event

WOMEN’S [IN]JUSTICE DAY MARCH: Join Community Advocacy and Healing Project, the Texas Criminal Justice Coalition, and Truth Be Told on International Women’s Day in marching from the Travis County Jail to the Texas Capitol in honor of women directly impacted by the criminal justice system. We will gather at the Travis County Jail at 9:00am on March 8th and make our way toward the South Steps of the Texas Capitol where there will be a press conference calling for the Legislature to prioritize legislation that would address the needs of incarcerated women and their families. What better place than the South Steps of the Texas Capitol for us to stand with formerly incarcerated women from across the state--a state that incarcerates more women than any other in the country. Following the press conference, attendees will have an opportunity to congregate in the Capitol Agriculture Museum to share 1) who they are at the Capitol representing—whether that be themselves or someone else, and 2) why this issue is personal for them. The final activity of the day will be a series of office visits where attendees will have an opportunity to share with legislative staff and legislators why this issue matters and how members can support this effort. This is an exciting opportunity to fill the Capitol with system-impacted women and advocates calling for women’s justice reforms like never before. We hope you will join us!
